Ductless Split AC Systems vs Central Air Units

Both types of units have condensing units that sit outside the house, and copper tubing that runs inside, there are few other similarities. A Ductless Split AC or Ductless Mini Split AC unit delivers the air not through ducts, but via a wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted blower unit. This style of system allows several indoor blower units to operate independently in different rooms, all connected to the same outside condenser unit.

Ductless Split AC Systems have advantages over other systems.

When you have multiple indoor blower units, you can easily create a multi-zone cooling system. Each unit can be set to operate independently, so you don’t have to cool seldom-used rooms unless you need to. This style of system also works well if you have one room that requires extra cooling at a specific time of day, as the blower unit in that room can cool it independently from the other rooms in your home or business. At the same time, the blowers can be linked, so that when all rooms are occupied you can set the thermostat to the same temperature and reduce variance in temperature across the entire home or building. The controls of a ductless split unit allow you to create maximum comfort and increased efficiency.

Quiet Comfort
Ductless split AC units have no ducts, so when they come on there is none of the traditional rattling and noises that a traditional AC unit produces. The only sign that the unit is working is the quiet and smooth delivery of fresh, cool air from the blowers. Because it doesn’t have to move air into the house, the outside unit can be located up to 50 feet away. This reduces the noise of the compressor associated with normal central air units.

Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) ratings have improved due to advancements in technology and design. Ductless split AC units are no exception to this. The law now requires a minimum rating of 13 SEER on new units. Ductless split units are much more efficient than the laws requite, with SEER ratings in the mid-20s or better. Higher SEER ratings indicate that a unit uses less electricity to provide the same amount of cooling. Another bonus to efficiency is that, since the air doesn’t have to travel through the home’s ductwork it has no chance to warm up or escape from a poorly sealed duct. The air provided by a Ductless split ac comes directly from the blower or air handler inside you home, so there is never any degradation of temperature or loss of cool air.
